Parashurama by molee Parashurama by molee
Parashurama the 6th avatar of lord vishnu was and will always be the greatest warrior in Indian culture.
He was a great martial arts master and the co-founder of the martial art named Kalaripayattu.
He was known for the genocide of the Kshatriya clan.
he killed many Kshatriya warriors for revenge of his father's murder and his mother's humiliation. He indiscriminately killed all men from the Kshatriya community, his anger was finally subdued by Lord Rama.

Kalaripayattu is derived from much older Tamil Martial art of Varma Kalai and Silambattam.

IMO attributing Parshu-Rama as being co-founder seems to be done only for political purposes.

Weird, he is barely referenced in our tradition...

'Cept that he's the 1 responsible for thunder.

oh yeah i've heard..
in your tradition he's called ramasura.

in india the story is a bit different.
that's why i prefer calling it indian mythology as opposed to hindu mythology.
similar to the difference between greek and roman myths where the stories are somewhat same.

i do feel like painting the thai version some day.. will let you know when i do.

Well "Pa" means something like "lord" is that the same thing in your language? I'm sure "Jai" & "Maha" is the same (Jai means something like "hail", "victory" or "long live" & "Maha" means "the great", right?) So "Pa" is more like his title? I can guess he's Ramasura by removing "Pa"

The problem with internet is that the names make me confused. So I wonder, if the English names match with the actual pronunciation or in Indian pronunciation. Or the English translated them based on letters and not on pronunciation. This is, actually a huge obstacle for me when I'm looking up information on the internet. So I wonder, if "Arjuna" is actually pronounced that way or more like "Orachun" which is how we pronounced it.

basically Parashurama means "Rama with an axe" "Parashu" is axe in Sanskrit.

and no Arjuna is pronounced as "ar-joo-nuh" in India not like the Thai "oh-ra-choon"

and i can understand the difficulty you must be facing.
btw

there is one major difference in the thai version of hanuman and the indian one..
hanuman as far as i know is a casanova in thailand.. but here in india it's the exact opposite, he's a total celibate!

fascinating isn't it? :D

Oh so Parashu means axe, that explains why he's wielding 1.

I know about Hanuman, not only he's a Casanova here, but he's also a poster boy for basically everything Thai culture. I'm more curious about the names honestly. But I also recall that Hanuman in Indian culture had a son too wasn't it? His son also shared the same name as in Thai tradition.

The other 1 I'm actually really really curious about is what's so special with Krishna. Here, it's a girls name (If read "Krish-nar" or "Kris-sa-nar" unless it's"Krish" or "Krisna" then it's a guys name) we don't talk about him at all, but we talk a whole lot about Rama.

About the name Orachun, the pronunciation is not really that long, more like "o-r-chun" as you know how "A" can be a bit like "O" and "R" is "Ra", I just put the "A" there to dictate the pronunciation, something so extremely hard to do in English language. So it's Arjuna in Hindi, hmm... 1 less mystery solved I guess.

So I'm curious, who did Vali killed inside a cave in Ramayana, because in Thai, he killed a buffalo & the name of that buffalo is a derogatory term. I tried to look up in English but I can't find it anywhere.

one thing confuses me about the part of rama calming him down is that if they both were reincarnations of narayan how could they both be their at the same time?

god(narayana, shiva, allah or any other form) is omnipotent and so he can take infinite number of incarnations in this universe.
so god having infinite power, there is no limitations for him.

yep!
he's the avatara who came before the rama of ayodhya.. he's supposed to be a chiranjivin(a person who's nearly immortal).
He's also supposed to be the martial arts teacher of lord kalki the 10th avatara of vishnu who's yet to arive in this world.

death of evil doers actually :)
that includes politicians as well..
in the puranas(hindu scriptures) its written that "crooks will become kings" and the crooks i know who became kings are our present day politicians.

Giving the realistic feel to our mythology is one thing I always loved... You've nailed it...
Fantastic rendering and great attention to detail.

It'll be great if you can compile the ten avatars into a single piece of art... I know that'll require quite an effort... ;-) But would love to see that as a fan
