Rudra by molee Rudra by molee
Rudra..

Rudra's name means howler or crier, he is the god of destruction, thunder, disease, medicine, chaos, wildness, anger and hunting.

He is the father of the Maruts and is the most terrifying god in the Rig-Veda.
Contrary to popular belief his main weapon wasn't the trident/trishul, they are the bow- Pinaka and arrow with the trishul/trident and the Vajra as secondary weapons.

Rudra as the god of hunting is known as Mrgavyadha which means beast hunter.

He is known as Triambaka for he has three eyes with the third on his forehead.

He is known as Pinaki or Pinaka-Pani for wields the bow Pinaka.

In most of the praises for Rudra in the Rig-Veda he’s been asked to calm down, show mercy and not get angry… this shows his terrifying destructive aspect.

Rudra was an extremely powerful god and it is evident form the phrases in the Vedas..

Rig-Veda, Book 2, Hymn 33:

1. FATHER of Maruts, let thy bliss approach us: exclude us not from looking on the sunlight.
Gracious to our fleet courser be the Hero may we transplant us, Rudra, in our children.
2 With the most saving medicines which thou givest, Rudra, may I attain a hundred winters.
Far from us banish enmity and hatred, and to all quarters maladies and trouble.
3 Chief of all born art thou in glory, Rudra, armed with the thunder, mightiest of the mighty.
Transport us over trouble to well-being repel thou from us all assaults of mischief.
4 Let us not anger thee with worship, Rudra, ill praise, Strong God! or mingled invocation.
Do thou with strengthening balms incite our heroes: I hear thee famed as best of all physicians.
5 May I with praise-songs win that Rudra's favour who is adored with gifts and invocations.
Ne’er may the tawny God, fair-checked, and gracious, swifthearing, yield us to this evil purpose.
6 The Strong, begirt by Maruts, hath refreshed me, with most invigorating food, imploring.
As he who finds a shade in fervent sunlight may I, uninjured, win the bliss of Rudra.
7 Where is that gracious hand of thine, O Rudra, the hand that giveth health and bringeth comfort,
Remover of the woe that Gods have sent us? O Strong One, look thou on me with compassion.
8 To him the strong, great, tawny, fair-complexioned, I utter forth a mighty hymn of praises.
We serve the brilliant God with adorations, we glorify, the splendid name of Rudra.
9 With firm limbs, multiform, the strong, the tawny adorns himself with bright gold decorations:
The strength of Godhead ne’er departs from Rudra, him who is Sovran of this world, the mighty.
10 Worthy, thou carriest thy bow and arrows, worthy, thy manyhued and honoured necklace.
Worthy, thou cuttest here each fiend to pieces: a mightier than thou there is not, Rudra.
11 Praise him the chariot-borne, the young, the famous, fierce, slaying like a dread beast of the forest.
O Rudra, praised, be gracious to the singer; let thy hosts spare us and smite down another.
12 I bend to thee as thou approachest, Rudra, even as a boy before the sire who greets him.
I praise thee Bounteous Giver, Lord of heroes: give medicines to us as thou art lauded.
13 Of your pure medicines, O potent Maruts, those that are wholesomest and health-bestowing,
Those which our father Manu hath selected, I crave from. Rudra for our gain and welfare.
14 May Rudra's missile turn aside and spare us, the great wrath of the impetuous One avoid us.
Turn, Bounteous God, thy strong bow from our princes, and be thou gracious to our seed and offspring.
15 O tawny Bull, thus showing forth thy nature, as neither to be wroth, O God, nor slay us.
Here, Rudra, listen to our invocation. Loud may we speak, with heroes, in assembly.

no dude.. there is no separate rudra avatar.. all that is just pure distortion..
rudra is shiva him-self and his normal form.. it's the version you see in the vedas that's all, basically it's a name change. it's kind of confusing i know..
for example vishnu is a mountain wandering warrior in the rig-veda as opposed to the puranic version where he sleeps on a giant snake floating on the cosmic ocean.
saraswati in the vedas was a goddess who rode chariots wearing a golden armor killing demons with her weapons.
varuna was the god of cosmic order and justice whereas in the puranas he has been demoted to a minor sea god.
indra in the vedas was the king of gods(including gods like rudra and vishnu) but now he is demoted to a minor rain god.
indians gods have changed from time to time and they never had a constant depiction.

Indra is not an Indian God, He was an Indo-Aryan God, as too Vishnu.

but Shiva is an Indian Origin of God.

& i Want to know that which purana state that Indra is king of Gods(including Shiva & Vishnu).

but I Like your work.

By Indo-Aryan if you mean those who migrated from Middle Asia etc, is just believe westerners have put on us. There was no mention of Aryan migrated from middle Asia in Vedas. Moreover, Sindhu valley civilization which goes up to 7,000 years (even before any other civilization started) had similar language as Sanskrit and same culture according to their archaeological discoveries. So yes, saying again; there were no one migrated from Middle Asia. Aryan and Dravidian were always been there. There are high chances that people from India, traveled to Asia and Europe and taught language and culture there.

the vedas state him as the supreme king of gods
don't you know the aryan invasion theory has been debunked long time back?
and rudra is already praised in the rig veda.
and in the rig veda , indra is referred to as shiva numerous times.. so either ways shiva is very much an aryan and so is rudra.
this aryan-dravidian nonsense was invented by the british for their divide and rule policy.
aryan means noble/civilized and dravidian is a person belonging to the pancha-dravida .. they are NOT opposite words.

and can u please tell me what looks modern to you in this..
just want to know.. :)

ancient indian clothign is unkwon even now.. it's very vague in nature.. the clothing used in harrapan times were different and the clothing before was totally different..
here's an example
our culture was completely different back then and the clothing was completely different as well and we have very little clue as to what clothing they wore.
it's an ancient image of lord shiva and the language is ancient sanskrit(yes the symbols are sanskrit in ancient indus script)..
[link]

if you notice closely he is wearing an outfit which almost looks alien to us..
and in most images of rudra of ancient times.. he was three-headed..

no!!! no no no no no

veerabhadra is a messenger of shiva created by a lock of his hair and not shiva him-self,it's a part-manifestation.
rudra is just shiva, that's it.. rudra=shiva, it's only a name change..
there is no such thing as rudra avatar.
shiva is known as rudra in the vedas and in the puranic scripts his name has changed to shiva..and his appearance has changed significantly into something else.
if u were watching devon ke dev mahadev.. don't refer to it at all, everything is completely distorted there.

Hi mate I kno there is no certain avatar of Shiv, it is just he transform to his different state i.e Shiva transformed to Veerbhadra form and it depicted his Rudra state. And don’t evn refer to the serial it is a melodrama. A bit modern look means the military pouch and that armor which is never depict in any Shiva’s portray. I don’t want to argue with this as Indian Myth is presented in diffn forms in diffn purans, infact I appreciate your innovative artwork

dude that is fine i am happy that you appreciate my artwork.. i am not arguing, i am explaining.
but
shiva doesn't transform into rudra. .he is already rudra.. there is no rudra state.. it's just a different name.. that is it..
nothing more nothign less.. like krishna's another name is madhava, gopala or govinda.. as simple as that.

veerabhadra is shiva's servant and a separate person altogether like shiva's bull nandi and is not shiva him-self nor his transformed form etc.
the one your referring to as Rudra is probably Bhairava, which is Shiva's terrifying form in the puranas where he grows fangs and sharp nails.

the golden armor is mentioned in the vedas.. and the pouch is something very basic made of leather which was used by people in ancient and medieval times.. it's very basic.. considering that the ancients knew how to make alkaline batteries(agastya samhita) and gun powder/agni churna and they also used rifle and firearms called nala-astras..
so i am trying to explore as many ideas as possible imagining how we might have been in those times.

The vedas are very different in nature as compared to the hinduism we know now, for example in the vedas.. Indra is as powerful as Shiva him-self and is also the elder brother of Vishnu,he also has blonde hair and beard.
Saraswati wasn't the peaceful veena playing goddess we know now.. she was the goddess of the fierce river saraswati and she her-self was a warrior goddess who killed demons.

and in Vedic times.. we even ate beef as is mentioned in the gomedha yajna - even swami vivekananda accepted this fact.

even in books like Ramayana
in the Ramayana when Rama ruled the kingdom his hair was braided into one single braid.. and not open as people generally show.

the bridge to lanka was built using normal stones.. and there nothign written about floating stones int he ramayana.

rama didn't wear saffron colored clothes as we popularly see.. nor was he a vegetarian..
he wore clothes amde out of tree-bark and he hunted animals for food in the jungle

the thing is that, till date no one.. i mean there isn't one depiction of the gods which is done as per the myths.. especially the vedas.
during vedic times we never practiced idol worship and there were no temples either.. so even in the temples we have only those depictions which are based on the puranas and not the vedas(you will never find a depiction of Indra or Rudra with a beard).
I'm trying to bring back those things which people have thrown away.. and have completely distorted or forgotten.

and to lessen the confusion in indian myths and to judge as to which is the more reliable script.. i give more authority to the text which is older.. in this instance i give more authority to the vedas and very less to the puranas, which are very new and were written around buddha's time.

this is how i prioritize to lessen my confusion and stay closer to the original story..
Vedas>Shatapatah Brahamanas>Upanishads>Valmiki Ramayana>Mahabharata>Puranas.
